Have you heard the news?
Apparently, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry actually danced to a different first dance song then previously reported. (WHAT?!)
This is according to Finding Freedom, a new biography that tells the story of Meghan and Harry’s exit from the royal family.
Of course, I’m sure there are all kinds of other nuggets of tabloid fodder in this book, but I only really care about their wedding and particularly, their first dance.
Originally, it was announced that their first dance was to “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston.
I loved the idea that a royal couple, with all the pomp and circumstance that goes into a royal wedding, would choose such a crowd pleaser and frankly, unexpected, song for their first dance.
“I Wanna Dance With Somebody” is arguably one of Whitney Houston’s best songs and I wholeheartedly support anyone who wants to copy Meghan and Harry and choose this as their first dance song.
But according to this new book, their first dance was actually to a song called “I’m In Love” by Wilson Pickett.
I’ve never had the pleasure of teaching anyone to dance to “I’m In Love” but I do hope I get the chance soon! This song has beautiful lyrics, an interesting musical structure and so much soul. It would be an excellent first dance song choice for a relaxed and romantic first dance.
